Integration of business and manufacturing planning based on e-manufacturing (e-mfg) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems

A concept of the SDA 1 vision embraces new modes of manufacturing engineering and ability to profit from ground-breaking manufacturing and management sciences. Techniques and tools for optimal planning of manufacturing are developed to screen for enterprises and their networks (SC) important factors that affect system performance.

The ‘virtual factory’ of the future will manufacture in adaptable networks, linking enterprises with other value-chain partners.

The object of research is a Manufacturing system (on the whole value chain) that refers to any collection of elements that converts raw material into a product. We identify the manufacturing systems at different levels: plant level; supply chain level and cluster level.

In a highly competitive environment, a manufacturing system should be managed in the most efficient way with the objective of:

  • minimization of cost, delivery delays, inventories, and investment;
  • maximization of profit, return of investment (ROI), customer service level, etc.

General results of this strategic development area are:

Methodology of integrated business and production planning system for SMEs and their networks (clusters) with implementation integrated concepts of e-manufacturing and product lifecycle management software applications.

In development, it is considered analysis of effectiveness and competitiveness and IT systems of the companies (clusters and networks of machine-building companies). For the companies, it is essential to be aware of the efficiency of value-chain, weaknesses and strategy of elaborating rational value chain.

To operate effectively and improve productivity essentially, significant changes have to be implemented. One of the possibilities is to improve management through whole value-chain, making quickly right decisions, appropriate use of resources and ability to process information that is created on different levels as a result of different processes. That determines necessity to develop best performance for e-manufacturing and product lifecycle through all value-chain. The result of this is further implementation of concepts, systems and software applications in tooling cluster and network of machine-building companies.

Model of integrated manufacturing system developed during applied research would be object of intellectual property.

Developed e-manufacturing concept integrated with PLM strategies in the case of successful implementation in IMECC companies would be object for further product developments outside IMECC framework.
